Beginning: How to Begin Writing

Sometimes, it is difficult to know just where to start. Other times, words flow easily and fast. The important thing: just write.

It doesn't matter where your writing will eventually fit in the finished piece — beginnings, middles, and endings sort themselves out later. Your only job is to catch the line that arrives today.

Trust that the rest will come when it is ready.

Trust that you don't need the whole map to take the first step.

Trust that writing is a practice, not a performance.

Write the first line that comes to you today.

Let it be enough.
