Balance: A Season of Creative and Personal Equilibrium

Balance — finding steadiness between my creative operations and my personal life.

Balance.

It’s becoming the quiet theme of this season for me.

As I transition deeper into my writing self, I’m learning that balance isn’t about equal halves. It’s not a neat fifty‑fifty split between creativity and life, or between ambition and rest. It’s something far more fluid — a gentle shifting of weight between my creative operation side and my personal side, depending on what the day asks of me.

My creative operation side is the part of me that plans, shapes, rewrites, edits, and builds the scaffolding that holds my stories upright. It’s the part that shows up with intention, structure, and focus. It expands when I’m deep in a manuscript, when I’m refining a chapter, or when I’m building the next stage of Mint Studio.

But life has its own rhythms, and lately mine includes caring for aging parents whose needs are quietly increasing. Some days my personal side has to grow larger — to hold appointments, conversations, changes, and the emotional weight that comes with watching the people you love move into a new season of their lives. Other days, my creative operations take the lead and I find myself immersed in words, ideas, and the steady hum of my writing world.

One grows. One shrinks. And yet, together, they keep me steady.

I’m realising that balance isn’t a fixed point. It’s not something I “achieve” and then maintain. It’s a conversation — a back‑and‑forth between the parts of myself that create and the parts of myself that live. It’s a rhythm, a negotiation, a gentle recalibration that happens quietly in the background.

This image captures that feeling for me. Different shapes, different weights, different colours, all held in quiet equilibrium. A reminder that I don’t need perfect symmetry… just a steady centre.

As I move into this next writing season, I’m choosing to honour that centre.
